Life. big events... and not so big events.

First off, I would like to say congrats to Egypt - Mubarak stepped down as president after about... 30 years? Around that. It's very exciting. :)

Okay. down to business. i have a date to my sorority's crush party (which is the friday after valentine's day... which i'm going to be single. no big deal. i'm excited. he's a friend, but it's still gonna be a blast. :)

Also, my sorority had a mixer with a smaller fraternity on campus. we were supposed to go to lunch... but when there was about 30 of us, there were about 4 or 5 of them. no big deal. we went to their frat house later that night and there were definitely more than 4 or 5. lots of fun. danced with a boy or two... and kinda made out with one. i feel like a female version of a player, because i don't want to have a negative connotation (aka slut, whore, you get the gist).

Yep. good times.
Today my sorority's having a fundraiser for Prevent Child Abuse America - one of our philanthropies. we're selling bags of hershey kisses for a dollar. fun times. :) it's Kissing away Child Abuse! hoorah. :)

I'm also kind of SUPER obsessed with Glee.

gonna go fundraise now. woohoo! :D

Stress?

I just compiled all of my syllabi for my classes in addition to my sorority calendar, and I'm pretty sure I just freaked myself out by doing that. AHH.

But the good news is that I was able to get one of two dates for this event coming up for the sorority called "Crush" (it's right after Valentine's day) - we're allowed to bring two dates. we go to a club basically and have fun. :) i'm excited. The two guys who I originally wanted to take are both busy with previous commitments, so then I asked a friend from one of my classes last year and he's available and wants to go. yay! there was that guy who i was talking to who lives a few floors above me (he did the same last year) and I asked him if he was free that night. of course, he has company coming in for almost a week, and it's over that weekend. boo. but one out of two isn't bad, right?

Songs + Sorority stress?

So. Songs.

I put all the Glee music I have into a playlist on iTunes, and i put that playlist in shuffle and repeat. Because I'm just that much of a gleek. sorry.

anyway, there's a song that just came up, called "Can't Fight This Feeling" and Finn sings it (on the show he's in the shower). But a reason that I bring this particular song up is that there's a line from it that wowman/magicman/dumbass (he shall be known as dumbass, sorry kids.) quoted, and it made me sad. :( Why? because he wrote this quote on a card that he gave me with flowers on our one month anniversary. I had to listen to it though, because i love glee and i need to stop associating songs with certain people/dumbasses.

anyway. Sorority time!
so we have this event right after valentines day this year (since valentine's day is on a monday) called Crush (it happens every year) where we all go to a club and basically party. :) each sister/new member (like myself) is allowed to bring two dates. I asked two boys from my floor who i know i would have fun with if they wanted to come, and... they both have previous commitments. :( poop. So i asked my friend from college writing in the fall of freshman year if he was free, and then followed up if wanted to go (as friends) to crush. he said "totz!" so i'm really excited that i have one date. i still need the other. i did ask another friend of mine if he was free, but he has a friend staying over for like, a week and is giving his guest a tour. :(

but one out of two ain't bad, don't you think?

Music: various songs from the Glee soundtracks

peace out y'all. :D

New year - new goals

Last school year (2009-2010), i was blogging just about my experiences as a freshman from a small suburban town.

back in 2010 - wowman/magic man dumped me for a girl who now lives on our floor (yeah, he moved onto my floor at the beginning of sophomore year, dumped me in october, and then started dating this girl right after we broke up. isn't that just FANTASTIC!?!?!)

This year, even though I missed the fall semester (see above for brief explanation), I'm writing about my experiences as a sorority girl.

Yeah, you read that correctly. I'm in a sorority now.

Who would've thought, me, a sorority girl? It's insane.

I'm not going to lie to you, I wasn't 100% for being a sorority girl. My mom kind of kept hinting at the idea, so I decided, what the hell?

Going through the whole pledging process here was ridiculous though, you rush all 7 panhellic sororities. That was all in one day - AH! Anyway, Sunday we were invited back to a maximum of four. Of course, I was only invited back to one and instantly felt insecure. I asked myself "what's wrong with me?" "why didn't the other sororities like me?" "did i do anything wrong?" but whatever. it's done with. I went to said sorority and talked to the girls. They were pretty chill - I really liked them. So the next day, Monday (this was over MLK weekend, sorry for not clarifying earlier) we were invited back to a maximum of two for preference parties, and I got invited back to my one party - so I knew that they wanted me to join.

It was a pretty strange experience, kind of like speed dating. I'm still getting to know the sisters in the sorority - I'm officially inducted as a new member though, so i get to wear this pin all the time. It's nice to see familiar faces on campus, and we went to a club the first saturday I was a member. it was a good time. this past weekend we went to a basketball game and then partied at a sister's apartment, and many people wanted me to go - even though I had plans to go off campus for dinner and all. I'm kind of glad I didn't go though, I got to spend some time with one of my new close friends, and my roommate and our mutual friends. We ended up playing loaded questions until.... 2 am? yeah, that sounds right. XP

But my new close friend, she's pretty awesome. She's not affiliated with any sorority and makes fun of me for being involved with one, but that's kind of how our friendship works. we just make fun of each other and we're goofy and strange and talk about anything and everything. it's a breath of fresh air, really, and I'm questioning why we didn't hang out earlier. She asks me that question every once in a while, but we just enjoy each other's company and our friendship. :)

anyway, i've been trying to figure out if i want to live on campus, off campus, and what i want to do about an internship and all that jazz. it's a fun time, really. trying to figure out what i want to do with the rest of my life, AHH!

i also have a good amount of work to do this week, so i'm kind of wondering why i decided to blog again, lol.

peace out!

Home stretch with Finals!

Finals, almost over! I can't wait for 2 pm Thursday. That's when I'm officially done my first semester of college! I will survive!!!

First, I have to get through two finals, along with a ten page paper that's due for one of my finals. Unfortunately, it does NOT count as my final. :( So I will be extremely dead tomorrow.

I'm almost done with the 10 page paper though, which is good... even though it's holding me back from studying for my other two. :( WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME AWESOME MUSIC TEACHER?!?!? WHHYYYY?!?!!?!!?!?

FINALS.

Let me first recap my weekend before I go crazy:

Friday: went to Panera Bread with the boyfriend. Panera is DELICIOUS. :D
Saturday: wrote the majority of a paper that was due Monday, went to an Improv club that night and went to go see the big Christmas tree by the white house... only to find that they turn the lights off at 11. :(
Sunday: WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK.

Okay, SOH! I have 2 finals today. trying not to freak out... at all. no big deal.... MEH.
Studied last night for Calculus a heck of a lot with a girl from my calc class... she kept asking me things and i could answer them, but i don't know if i'll be able to answer the questions on the exam. *sigh* i have my college writing final first, and then i have about 20 minutes to get to my calc final. I say today's a box lunch day, wouldn't you?

wish me luck!!

Finals are approaching...

So as you can see from my title, finals are approaching.

This is my last week of classes. Hooray and not hooray! I had work to do, ya know. It's fun but... not fun at the same time.

I had one class on Tuesday (because one was cancelled to do work) and two classes (instead of three) on Thursday (to do work on a movie analysis). Fun times, eh? I thought so.

So instead of reviewing for a final right now, I'm posting while i'm waiting for people to get lunch in the Tavern (aka food and plenty of space to just chill). Nothing special.

This weekend's gonna be full of studying... maybe i'll manage to take a break from stuDYING and go somewhere?? i'll see what will happen.

Thanksgiving break!

My gosh, I'm sorry that I've been super busy. Here, get a taste of the college life.

October:
  1. Friend from home visited me on the 10th. Dali Llama was in town. didn't see his presentation. oh well. no biggie.
  2. Another friend came into town over my fall break (which was the following weekend) and we went out and around town and whatnot. Yay fun times.
  3. The weekend after that was parent's weekend. Went out to dinner with my parents, my boyfriend and his mom. Cheesecake factory is YUMMY. Went shopping the following day, and that was fun too. I like shopping. :D
  4. Halloween: nothing happened. stayed in with my boyfriend. Watched movies and fooled around a little bit. teehee.

November:
  1. i celebrated my boyfriend's birthday with him by going out to Hard Rock Cafe. I got him season 1 of "How I Met Your Mother" - GOOD stuff, I know.
  2. There's a girl on my floor whose birthday was the following day. we all went out to a diner that was like, a 1/2 hour away, walking. in the cold. had breakfast for dinner, but still. was not a fan of walking that far.
  3. I helped set up for a concert I didn't go to. Forever the sickest kids, My Favorite Highway, Sing it Loud, and someone else who i forget all performed.
  4. Saw Three 6 Mafia on 11/21, they were a big disappointment. Oh well. They didn't do any of their popular hits, like "Stay Fly" or "Lolli Lolli" and that made me sad. :(
  5. also, lots of homework and whatnot to do. eh. it happens.
don't know what to get the boyfriend for Christmas, and I'm kind of freaking out about that. ALKJDFA;OIJF;LAKGD;SLJ

There. Now I get a week to stress out before finals. No social life. AT ALL. After that though, I will be home and it will be AWESOME. :D

Catching up...

So I have plenty of things to catch up on. Sorry i've been behind.

First: HAPPY OCTOBER!

Second: On Tuesday (9/29) my day was extremely awesome and then went downhill. I shall explain.
The boy was acting all suspicious when I went to lunch with him and I was like, what's going on? why won't you tell me? and other questions like that. He wouldn't answer. But whatever. I come back to my dorm, open the door and there is a vase full of flowers, and the bottom of the vase is surrounded with 6 Reese's peanut butter cups - my favorite. The note is SOOOO adorable, I love it.

It reads:
*Insert my name here*
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running circles in my mind
and it always seems that you girl
can take me to the place that alone I'll never find.
I love you! *insert boyfriend's name here*

now, the actual lines there (not the "I love you" but everything else) is from "Can't fight this feeling" - which is sung by Finn in the first episode of one of my favorite shows, "Glee".

After this wonderful exchange, I go to my other class, then run off to do errands in Tenleytown with my roommate, where i get a phone call from one of my mom's friends at home, asking if i'm okay and how i'm feeling and stuff like that, where I'm like, ....yeah, i'm fine... why wouldn't i be? and she realized she called too early.

Two minutes later (while i'm still in the store) my mom calls and tells me that my grandmother died. It was my grandmother on my mom's side, and she was sick for 2-3 years. It was especially hard on my mom while she was sick because my mom ran EVERYWHERE for my grandmother - she got her medicine, went to get groceries, went to the hospital with her when she was sick, brought her food, did like EVERYTHING for her. But I'm glad that my mom doesn't have to do all of that anymore, even though my grandmother's gone. She wasn't the same when she was sick, so i'm trying to think of all the good memories with her (before she was sick) and realize that she's in a better place and she's not suffering anymore.

I was a mess that day. A little bit on the following day. Was very sad on Thursday. Friday, I went home. Was a wreck at the viewing Friday and the funeral Saturday. I'm glad I got to see my family though. All 10 of my cousins and all of my aunts and uncles. My friend came from her college with her parents, along with my friend from high school (i know you'll be reading this, so thank you) and yeah. it was nice to see people. I felt like i didn't know half the people though when they kept greeting us and all of that.

Third: MY TEACHERS DECIDED TO HATE ME AND ASSIGN 4 TESTS FOR ME TO TAKE THIS WEEK. I already had 2, and I have 2 more coming up. One was a re-test, but still, ya kno?

Fourth: I went out to dinner with my uncle on Tuesday, he was in DC for work. a little awkward considering i just saw him for the funeral, but again, dinner was nice. we just went to some pizza place in Tenleytown. quiet, but nice. he offered to get me a glass of wine, and i'm like, I don't drink, you should know this! haha.

Fifth: trying to get ahead with work because i've been busy.

Sixth: a friend from home is coming early on Saturday and leaving even earlier on Sunday. wahoo for seeing friends from home! :D

Seventh: I'm going to go finish my work so I can watch GLEE! YAY GLEE I'M SO PSYCHED!

one month!

hooray, today is our one month anniversary. aka wowman/magicman and my bad self.
we are bosses like that. :D
i'll let you know how the day plans out.

anyway, i went home for the weekend, apparently i had/have a sinus infection. i am currently on antibiotics and will be finished with them in... 2 or 3 days. yay antibiotics!

trip home! it wasn't actually bad. i took the amtrak to 30th street station in Philadelphia. that place is a little confusing. but it's nice. really big and nice. anyway, amtrak was easy, along with the one down here in DC. got some reading done on the train, nothing too exciting.
went to the football game at my high school, and i got to see a good amount of people. there were a few people there who graduated with me who i got to see, along with two people who graduated the year before me. there's one other girl here at school with me who i graduated with, and she was apparently at the game. i didn't see her, but still, that was weird.

spent some time with the parents, it was pretty relaxed. had quiche and ribs and a baked potato with my parents and my grandmother. she was sooooooooooo happy to see me, even if i was sick. i'm glad i was able to make people's weekends.
